Sedgwick County Jail

Inmates

Interview with Roderick

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates?
Roderick: Its always difficult to get along with everybody when your shoved in a room and packed in like a can of sardines. Alot of them are loud and obnoxious and think yelling and cussing the guards is going to get them some attention. Some of them are detoxing. And most of them are crying and trying to get someone, anyone to accept their collect call from the holding cell which is $4.70 for a twenty minute call, and the fees the same whether you talk 20 minutes or 2.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Roderick: When your in pod, if you have serious issues with another inmate and think it may result in violence you can report to the guard the situation and they will move on or the other of you to another location and also put you in a green jumper instead of orange as this indicates to them that you are "flagged" against another inmate and shouldn't be in chapel, or clinic at the same time they are.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate if you knew one?
Roderick: I don't understand this question. It needs to be more specific.
